Alviro Petersen Foundation Cricket Challenge a huge success - 8th March 2017

The Alviro Petersen Foundation embarked on a week-long workshop for drug abuse and bullying within the northern areas schools of Port Elizabeth from 27th February until 3rd March 2017.

Drug abuse remains a major problem especially in the northern areas of Port Elizabeth, and the AP Foundation has once again contracted Second Chance under the leadersip of Jarryd Smith, himself a recovered drug addict, to conduct the week long workshops.

The week culminated in the APF Cricket Challenge on Saturday 4th March that took place at Otto Du-Plessis High School, when five schools, namely Fontein Primary, Hillcrest Primary, Gelvandale HS, St Thomas HS and Otto Du-Plessis HS participated in what turned out to be a fantastic day that was very well attended by the community.

Fontein Primary kept their unbeaten record in the primary schools division while Otto Du-Plessis HS maintained their 100% record since 2014.

The Alviro Petersen Foundation have once again contributed to 36 high school students school fees this year, underlying it's commitment to education.

Mr Jaco de Jager from Otto Du-Plessis HS said: "The Foundation is well organised and community orientated. It is an absolute necessity in our society that is depleted of father figures.

Mr. Piedts from St. Thomas HS said: "The foundation is also highlighting the importance of education by contributing to the students school fees".

The Foundation once again chose a Select XI, and details of the squad as well as their tour will be made public in due course.

Alviro Petersen said: “This is truly an event that keeps on growing, and we even had past players coming down and supporting the schools they attended.”

"I would like to thank our wonderful sponsors, Momentum, Bayfm, This is Eat Restaurant and Metro Security for their support of the Foundation and helping us make a difference in the lives of many.”

Alviro Petersen added: “Furthermore I want to thank Mr. Van Eeden and all the staff at Otto Du-Plessis HS for hosting a memorable event, and finally to the supporters and players, a big thank you!"
