Blogs - through my eyes

It’s good to be back at the County Ground!

It is always great to be back here at the County Ground and to fell part of the Somerset changing room again.

This is a good time to come back because we are still in with a chance of reaching the last eight of the 50 over one day competition and also lifting the championship title for the first time ever, which would be some feat and Id love to be part of that.

Its great to be part of the scene for the back end of the season because it is normally when everything happens, so it is exciting to be back and I’m looking to contribute.

I was here to watch Tom Abell get his runs on Saturday and I am very pleased that I was.

It’s always good to see young batsmen play so nicely and put their hands up and play well in pressure situations, which is just what he did. He held himself together pretty well and if you didn’t know he was making his debut you’d be forgiven for thinking that he had played for a couple of years so it was very encouraging to see.

My tour to Sri Lanka with South Africa was a good one. We went their with no high expectations knowing that we could beat them in their own country, but it was always going to be hard because they are such a good side in their own back yard.

We started the series well but in the next one we had to block it out to try and save the Test Match first of all and win the series which we have done. I know there was some criticism about the way we played but at the end of the day it’s the results that count and sometimes people forget that.

In Sri Lanka you have a massive advantage if you win the toss. We won it in the first and lost it in the second. I thought it was a brilliant tour in terms of results and we are back to number one.

I will now be in Taunton until the end of the season and then I am going back to South Africa where I will play a few games for the Lions before the Test Series against the West Indies comes around in December and January.

There is not a lot of Test cricket happening this year because of the World Cup and one day internationals so I will be basically playing for the Lions.

I am back here in Taunton on my own this time because my family have travelled quite a bit with me this year, what with going to Sri Lanka and then Zimbabwe before returning to Somerset.

We thought it would be better for them to stay back in Johannesburg for now, but next year if I play county cricket my family will come with me.
